How a Star’s Death Can Reveal a Black Hole

چکیده

Studying invisible objects in space that are hundreds of millions light years away may sound impossible. But, recent years, astronomers have developed a new way to investigate type and distant objects—super-massive black holes. Black holes the most densely packed Universe. When stars get close super-massive they can be torn apart, which produces relatively brief but informative flash light. These star-destroying events help us discover locations massive Universe, only if we know how find interpret them. In this article, will discuss different ways “see” holes, particularly what do not yet understand about getting “tidally disrupted” by Light Year The distance travels year, is 5,878,625,370,000 miles.

How big can a black hole grow?

I show that there is a physical limit to the mass of a black hole, above which it cannot grow through luminous accretion of gas, and so cannot appear as a quasar or active galactic nucleus (AGN). The limit is Mmax 5× 1010 M for typical parameters, but can reach Mmax 2.7× 1011 M in extreme cases (e.g. maximal prograde spin). The largest black hole masses so far found are close to but below the l...

How fast can a black hole release its information ?

When a shell collapses through its horizon, semiclassical physics suggests that information cannot escape from this horizon. One might hope that nonperturbative quantum gravity effects will change this situation and avoid the ‘information paradox’. We note that string theory has provided a set of states over which the wavefunction of the shell can spread, and that the number of these states is ...

Can high - velocity stars reveal black holes in globular clusters ?

We estimate the number of individual, fast-moving stars observable in globu-lar clusters under the assumption that the clusters contain massive central black holes which follow the galactic M BH − σ relationship. We find that radial velocity measurements are unlikely to detect such stars, but that proper motion studies could reveal such stars, if they exist, in the most likely clusters. Thus, H...

Black Hole Collisions: How Far Can Perturbation Theory Go?

The computation of gravitational radiation generated by the coalescence of inspiralling binary black holes is nowdays one of the main goals of numerical relativity. Perturbation theory has emerged as an ubiquitous tool for all those dynamical evolutions where the two black holes start close enough to each other, to be treated as single distorted black hole (close limit approximation), providing...

Squeezars: Tidally Powered Stars Orbiting a Massive Black Hole

We propose that there exists a class of transient sources, “squeezars”, which are stars caught in highly eccentric orbits around a massive (m . 10M⊙) black hole (MBH), whose atypically high luminosity (up to a significant fraction of their Eddington luminosity) is powered by tidal interactions with the MBH. Their existence follows from the presence of a mass sink, the MBH, in the galactic cente...
